Lights by the Lake is now open at Jurong Lake Gardens. The main Mid-Autumn programme continues through Sunday, September 27, 2026, while the lantern displays remain illuminated through Sunday, October 4. Admission to the festival and lantern displays is free, although several workshops and experiences require separate registration.

The event occupies Lakeside Garden, Chinese Garden and Japanese Garden. Do not choose an MRT station simply because it carries the garden's name. Choose it according to the first display or timed programme you want to see, then walk through the site in one direction. Keep the official event map open while choosing the route.

*Original editorial image generated for Roaming eSIM. It represents a generic lantern-lit lakeside garden, not the actual 2026 displays or final event layout.*

The useful decision: use Lakeside MRT for Lakeside Field and the food market, Chinese Garden MRT for the Cloud Pagoda show and Ficus Lawn, or Jurong East MRT for the Japanese Garden side. The event map is more useful than a single venue pin because the three zones have different entrances and programmes.

This guide was checked on September 20 against the NParks programme, transport, traffic and weather advisories. By the time this page was published, the September 19 opening concert and September 20 lantern trail had passed in Singapore. They are not included as future recommendations below.

Lights by the Lake 2026 dates and remaining programme

DateWhat is still availableBest for
September 21 to 24Lantern displays, Cloud Pagoda show, weekday lantern riddles and buskingA quieter evening with fewer timed commitments
September 25Mid-Autumn Festival date, lanterns, riddles, stargazing and Watermarks of the MoonVisitors who want the festival on the traditional celebration date
September 26Singapore Chinese Orchestra, art activities, family games, movie, stargazing, performances and registered activitiesThe fullest remaining programme and likely the largest crowd
September 27Family activities, art, live music, movie and the final main-programme nightFamilies who want weekend activity without Saturday's schedule density
September 28 to October 4Lantern displays only, subject to the current garden noticeA simpler lights-focused visit after the main event ends

The official lantern programme schedules the displays from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM daily through October 4. The Cloud Pagoda light show runs through September 27 from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM every 30 minutes, with the last show at 10:00 PM. On September 21, the pagoda is due to glow yellow and purple for World Alzheimer's Day.

The main programme has a different end date. Food stalls, performances and most festival activities finish on September 27. A visitor arriving from September 28 should plan for lantern viewing, not assume that the market, concerts or staffed activities continue.

Which remaining Lights by the Lake date fits your evening?

Choose a weekday for lanterns and room to walk

From September 21 to 25, lantern riddles run at Wave Plaza in Lakeside Garden from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Buskers perform from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Pagoda Plaza on weekdays. These nights suit visitors who care more about the displays and a manageable route than a packed stage schedule.

Friday, September 25 is the Mid-Autumn Festival date in 2026. It also adds stargazing at Water Lily Pavilion and two performances of Watermarks of the Moon at the Japanese Garden Guesthouse. Those sessions give Friday more structure than a normal weekday, so arrive with a route rather than drifting between all three gardens.

Choose September 26 for the largest remaining programme

Saturday has the broadest mix. The Singapore Chinese Orchestra performs at Ficus Lawn from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, followed by an outdoor screening of *Migration* at 8:00 PM. Lakeside Garden also has the Roving Art Studio, bouncy castles and games, ArtsEverywhere performances and registered PAssion Wave activities. Japanese Garden adds stargazing, Watermarks of the Moon and a separate silent-disco programme linked to Science Centre Singapore.

Several activities require registration and may fill before arrival. Free entry to Lights by the Lake does not mean every workshop, boat session or special experience is walk-in. Check the linked activity page rather than joining a queue on assumption.

Choose September 27 for a family-focused final night

Sunday retains the Roving Art Studio, bouncy castles, ART:DIS music and registered craft activities. *The Wild Robot* is scheduled on Ficus Lawn at 7:00 PM. It is the final night of the main festival programme, but the lanterns continue for another week.

For a family with young children, one activity zone plus one lantern area is more realistic than all three gardens. Decide whether the film, games or art studio is the anchor, then use the nearest displays around it.

The best MRT station depends on your first stop

The official public-transport page gives three useful rail approaches:

MRT stationNearest event entryOfficial walking estimateChoose it for
Lakeside MRT, EW26Lakeside Plaza3 minutesLakeside Field lanterns, food market, games and Wave Plaza
Chinese Garden MRT, EW25Chinese Garden Bridge5 minutesCloud Pagoda, Ficus Lawn, Pagoda Plaza and the central show area
Jurong East MRT, NS1/EW24Japanese Garden Bridge20 minutesJapanese Garden activities when that zone is the main reason for visiting

Jurong East is a major interchange, but it is not the shortest walk to the Japanese Garden information counter. The official estimate is 23 minutes to Water Lily Pavilion. Visitors with limited walking capacity should not treat it as a door-to-door arrival.

From Changi Airport, the normal rail pattern uses the airport branch to Tanah Merah and the East-West Line toward the western stations. Check the current LTA rail map and a live journey planner on the day, especially if arriving with luggage or close to the final train.

Do not bring airport luggage into an evening garden route unless you have confirmed a suitable storage plan. Even without a special festival bag gate, a suitcase makes long paths, crowds and station transfers harder.

A practical one-way route through the three gardens

The official map should decide the exact path, but the following sequence avoids crossing the site twice.

Start at Lakeside Garden

Exit at Lakeside MRT and enter near Lakeside Plaza. Use the food market at Lakeside Field before the busiest dinner period, then see the White Snake lantern scenes or a timed Wave Plaza activity. The market runs from 6:30 PM to 11:00 PM through September 27 and lists both halal and non-halal options.

This is also the simplest end of the site for families using the weekend bouncy castles and games. Set a departure time before children are tired; the route becomes longer once the group continues east.

Continue to Chinese Garden

Chinese Garden contains the Cloud Pagoda light show, Ficus Lawn and several central programme areas. If the show matters, aim for a specific half-hour performance rather than waiting beside the pagoda indefinitely. Busking runs at Pagoda Plaza on weekdays and near the Outdoor Kitchen on the weekend.

The Chinese Garden stamp rally remains available through October 4, but keepsake redemption is limited to September 25, 26 and 27 among the remaining dates, from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM at Bonsai Garden. Completing the route on another day does not guarantee a redemption desk will be open.

Finish at Japanese Garden only if the group has time

Japanese Garden has the Floral Garden and Resthouse Pond lanterns, the Sunken Garden light display and the remaining September 25 and 26 performance and stargazing programme. It is worth including when one of those experiences is a priority. It should not become an obligation at the end of an already long evening.

If the group is tired after Chinese Garden, leave from Chinese Garden MRT. If Japanese Garden is the anchor, reverse the route and finish near Lakeside MRT. Save both station pins before starting.

Driving, parking and the temporary traffic plan

NParks expects large crowds and recommends public transport. The North Carpark has 173 car spaces and the South Carpark has 171, so a published carpark does not amount to a guaranteed space.

During the event, entry to North Carpark is only through the Yuan Ching Road slip road. There is no entry from Tah Ching Road or the northbound lane of Yuan Ching Road. The traffic advisory also allows live adjustments when roads are congested.

If you need a pickup or drop-off, use the official coach-bay direction and follow on-site personnel. Do not send a driver only the broad "Jurong Lake Gardens" pin. Agree on North Carpark, South Carpark or another specific legal pickup point before entering the crowd.

Parking prices and diversions can change. Check the official private-transport page on the day rather than relying on an old event listing or screenshot.

Weather, haze and safety at an outdoor night event

Most activities are described as rain or shine, but that is not a promise that every outdoor programme will continue through lightning, heavy rain or unsafe haze. NParks tells visitors to seek shelter in bad weather and avoid forested areas during and immediately after it. Outdoor programmes may be suspended if air quality worsens.

Check Singapore's official weather and air-quality information before leaving. Pack a compact rain layer, water and footwear suitable for wet paths. An umbrella may help on open paths, but it can obstruct other people in a dense viewing area.

The event FAQ places a paramedic at the Lakeside Garden Entrance Pavilion throughout September 19 to 27. Additional first-aid posts at Pagoda Plaza and Water Lily Pavilion operate on September 25, 26 and 27 from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM. For a medical emergency in Singapore, call 995.

Jurong Lake Gardens is smoke-free. Candlelit lanterns, sparklers and other open flames are not allowed. Bring a battery-lit lantern if you want one, or buy an event item that complies with the site rules.

Planning the three gardens with children, strollers or a wheelchair

The festival is spread across public gardens rather than a compact showground. A stroller may help a small child over the longer route, but crowded paths, bridges and timed activities can slow the group. Choose two zones and one anchor activity instead of measuring success by how many installations you reach.

The event map identifies information and first-aid points, but the public pages checked do not provide a complete step-free route between every display and programme. North Carpark lists two accessible spaces and South Carpark lists four; neither guarantees availability. Visitors who need a specific step-free route, rest interval or accessible toilet should contact NParks and review the current map before travel.

Dogs must remain leashed and owners must clean up after them under the garden visitor rules. A permitted pet in the park is not automatically a good fit for a crowded evening programme, loud performance or light show.

Apps and maps to save before entering Jurong Lake Gardens

  • MyTransport.SG: check rail and bus information before leaving and again before the return journey.
  • myENV: check official rain, lightning, haze and air-quality information.
  • The Lights by the Lake event map: save the three entrances, the chosen programme and a second exit.
  • Google Maps or Apple Maps: download the western Singapore area and save Lakeside, Chinese Garden and Jurong East stations.
  • Your airline or airport app: keep it separate from the festival route if you are travelling on the same day.

Take screenshots of any activity registration, the event programme, the return route and the group's meeting point. A crowded garden or temporary traffic diversion can make a live map slower or less useful at the exact moment everyone checks it.

Mobile data for Lights by the Lake

Mobile data is useful for the event map, rail updates, weather radar, registration pages and messaging after the group separates. It cannot guarantee fast service in a crowd, so the essential route should also be stored offline.

A Roaming eSIM for Singapore can be installed before the trip while the usual SIM remains in the phone. The public catalog checked on September 20 listed fixed-data and daily-allowance options with package-specific validity, speed labels and top-up eligibility. Confirm the selected card because those details are not identical across every plan.

Travelers continuing to Malaysia or Thailand can compare a regional Roaming eSIM instead of replacing the data profile at each border. The useful advantage for this event is continuity from Changi Airport to the East-West Line, the garden map and the journey home, not a claim of priority or guaranteed speed inside the crowd.

Estimate the allowance with the travel data calculator, check whether the phone supports eSIM and install the Roaming eSIM before departure. Families staying longer can use the Singapore with kids guide for country-level planning.

Questions visitors are asking about Lights by the Lake

Is Lights by the Lake 2026 free?

Yes. NParks says admission is free and no festival ticket is required. Food, retail purchases and separately registered activities can still cost money.

Which MRT station is best for Lights by the Lake?

Use Lakeside for Lakeside Field and the market, Chinese Garden for the Cloud Pagoda and Ficus Lawn, or Jurong East when Japanese Garden is the main destination. The closest station depends on the first stop, not the event name alone.

Can I see all three gardens in one evening?

It is possible for visitors comfortable with a long walk, but it is not necessary. One timed activity and two garden zones usually produce a less rushed evening. Walk in one direction and leave from a different station if useful.

Are the lanterns still open after September 27?

Yes. The lantern displays are scheduled through October 4, from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM. The main programme, market and most staffed activities end on September 27.

Can I drive and park at Jurong Lake Gardens?

Yes, but spaces are limited and temporary diversions apply. North Carpark entry is restricted to the Yuan Ching Road slip road during the event. Public transport avoids the risk of arriving after the carparks fill.

Can I bring a candle lantern or sparkler?

No. Open flames, candlelit lanterns and sparklers are not allowed in the gardens. Use a compliant battery-lit lantern.

Is Lights by the Lake suitable for a stroller or wheelchair?

The gardens have public paths and accessible parking spaces, but the festival pages do not publish one complete step-free route through every installation. Plan a shorter route, verify the intended entrance and contact NParks if a specific facility determines the visit.

What happens if it rains or the haze worsens?

Many activities are rain or shine, but visitors should seek shelter during bad weather. Outdoor programmes may be suspended for unsafe haze or other conditions. Check the official event notice and myENV before leaving.

Is food available at the festival?

Yes. The Lakeside Field food market runs through September 27 from 6:30 PM to 11:00 PM, and the garden also has permanent dining options. The official list identifies halal and non-halal stalls.

Where can I get first aid?

The Entrance Pavilion in Lakeside Garden has the event's main paramedic point. Additional posts operate at Pagoda Plaza and Water Lily Pavilion on September 25, 26 and 27 from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM. Call 995 for an emergency.

Final plan for Jurong Lake Gardens

  1. Choose the date by programme, not only by lantern hours.
  2. Pick the first garden and the matching MRT station.
  3. Save one timed activity, one food stop and a second exit.
  4. Check weather, haze and the live traffic advisory.
  5. Keep the registration, map, meeting point and return route offline.

The event is easier when treated as three connected garden visits rather than one pin on a map. Start near the activity that matters most, move in one direction and leave while the group still has the energy for the station walk.
