Nomad eSIM launches five membership tiers: rewards and rules
Nomad eSIM has launched a five-tier membership program that gives returning customers points, free data add-ons, discounts and larger referral limits. Every registered customer starts as a Traveler, then can move through Explorer, Adventurer, Voyager and Elite as eligible spending increases.
The August 21 announcement is not the first public trace of the feature. Apple's version history says Nomad app version 10.18.0 introduced Membership Tiers on August 6. August 21 is the press announcement date, not necessarily the first day customers could use it.
The traveler decision: Nomad Membership can reward someone who already plans to buy several Nomad packages in a year. A one-trip customer should compare the cash price, allowance, validity and network first. Future points do not make an expensive or unsuitable plan a better fit today.
What Nomad Membership adds
Nomad has offered loyalty points before. The new program places those rewards inside five status levels and adds benefits as a customer's qualifying annual spend grows.

The announcement says upgrades happen automatically when qualifying spend crosses a threshold. There is no separate membership application or fee. An account is still necessary because guest purchases do not accumulate toward status.
The five tiers do not make every reward immediate
The entry Traveler tier covers US$0 to US$20 in qualifying annual spend and returns 5% in points, according to the announcement. Nomad's current guide gives US$21 as the standard Explorer threshold and says Explorer earns 7% back.
Nomad does not expose every intermediate threshold in the text version of its public guide. The named sequence is clear, but a traveler should use the live profile screen for the current Adventurer and Voyager requirements rather than copying a table from an older screenshot or third-party article.
Elite is the top tier. The launch announcement places it above US$150 in qualifying annual spend and gives it the maximum 15% points-back rate. That is future Nomad credit, not 15% removed from every current card charge.
Points are rounded down in US$5 spending blocks
Nomad's membership guide says points-back calculations round the eligible purchase down to the nearest US$5 block. A US$11 purchase and a US$14 purchase both earn points as if the customer spent US$10. A US$16 purchase and a US$19 purchase both earn on US$15.
This means the advertised percentage and the effective return can differ on a small purchase.

The US$14 Explorer example produces an effective return of 5%, not 7%, because US$4 falls outside the rewarded block. That is not a hidden fee, but it matters when comparing a future reward with a lower cash price elsewhere.
Nomad's current pages disagree on how long status is assessed
The launch announcement describes membership status as based on a rolling 365-day spend window. Nomad's detailed guide says a customer's cycle begins on the registration date, then describes a 30-day evaluation window at the end of that cycle for re-ranking.
Its example says a customer whose cycle ends on July 31, 2027 is evaluated from July 2 through July 31 and can retain or reach Explorer with US$36 of cumulative spending during that window. That figure does not match the US$21 standard Explorer threshold stated elsewhere on the same guide.
The safest interpretation is that promotion during the current cycle and re-ranking for the next cycle may use different tests. Nomad should clarify that in the public table. Until it does, the status screen and a written answer from support are the safer authority for a customer making a purchase only to preserve a tier.
Free data and discounts have tier and timing conditions
Explorer and higher tiers can receive at least one free 1GB data add-on code and a 25% birthday-month discount. The launch announcement says the highest levels can receive up to seven free 1GB Global Data Packs in a year.
Adventurer and higher tiers can receive 15% off an eligible destination bought at least twice within the relevant period. They can also receive 15% off eligible add-ons of 10GB or more.
These are useful benefits for a repeat traveler, but they are not a blanket discount on every plan:
- The free-data code is valid only while the current tier remains active.
- The frequent-destination benefit requires repeat purchases for an eligible destination.
- The large add-on offer applies to eligible add-ons, not every new plan.
- A refund can lower qualifying spend and change the available tier.
Nomad Pass subscribers are fast-tracked to Explorer. If the subscription is cancelled before the customer has reached US$21 through qualifying spend, Nomad says the account falls back to Traveler.

Nomad Points can expire before the annual tier cycle ends
Nomad's current points help page says loyalty points expire six months after they are acquired. That is shorter than the 365-day membership-progress cycle.
The distinction is easy to miss:
- Tier progress measures qualifying spend over the membership period.
- The points balance is a separate form of future credit.
- Expired points do not become cash and cannot be moved to another provider.
Nomad says 100 points is worth US$1 at checkout. A valid payment method is still required even when points cover the full eligible amount. Some plans can be excluded from point redemption while still earning points, so the checkout screen remains the authority.

🏆 Roaming eSIM wins for a one-trip decision: the value is visible on the selected plan now. There is no need to estimate a future points balance, reach a tier, wait for another trip, or keep credit from expiring.
Nomad wins for an existing repeat customer: if the traveler would buy the same eligible packages anyway, points and tier benefits can add value without a separate application.
The right comparison is the final cash cost and trip fit after any usable reward. A 15% future credit cannot compensate for missing coverage, the wrong validity period or a package that is too large for the trip.
Roaming eSIM plans without membership thresholds
The Roaming eSIM public catalog was checked at 18:58 UTC on August 22. It returned 18 UK packages and 43 Japan packages.
UK examples included 1GB for 7 days at US$1.14, 3GB for 15 days at US$3 and 5GB for 30 days at US$4.76. The reviewed records supported eligible top-ups and named Three, O2, T-Mobile UK and Vodafone, depending on the selected plan.
Japan examples included 1GB for 7 days at US$1.40, 3GB for 15 days at US$3.40 and 5GB for 30 days at US$5.40. The reviewed records supported eligible top-ups and named KDDI, au, NTT Docomo, Rakuten Mobile and SoftBank, depending on the package.
