The physical event and the game events overlap, but they are not interchangeable. A person can care about the train and exhibits without playing Pokémon GO. A player visiting only for orange-hanbok Pikachu still needs to remain inside the event's live game area and complete research before its deadline.

Three similar event names, three different plans

The announcement combines several programmes under one autumn campaign. Sorting them first prevents the most common planning mistake.

The physical Pokémon Mega Festa

The physical festival runs for 24 days. Current reports name HiKR Ground, the AREX Express Train, Seoul Station and both Incheon Airport terminals. HiKR Ground is expected to use floors 1 to 3 for event content, with a pop-up and merchandise area on the fifth floor.

This is the relevant programme if you want the decorated train, photo zones, exhibits, stamp activity or physical goods. It is also the programme with the most unfinished operational detail. Do not build a nonrefundable airport trip around a presumed reward until the organizer publishes the rally rules.

Pikachu's Autumn Outing in Pokémon GO

The official Pokémon GO announcement gives this local event the same September 18 to October 11 window. It names selected areas in Seoul's Jongno-gu and Jung-gu districts and Incheon Airport HiKR Station.

Orange-hanbok Pikachu makes its debut. Fifteen designated gyms will host raids, with one raid available at each gym per day. Remote Raid Passes cannot be used for these raids. Free Timed Research is available around HiKR Ground and HiKR Station, and all tasks and rewards must be completed and claimed by 20:00 KST on October 11.

The official page warns that event areas can change. Check the in-game map after arrival instead of relying on coordinates copied from an older post.

The nationwide Pokémon GO window

A separate nationwide event runs from September 24 to 26. It is shorter than the physical festival and the local outing. Someone arriving on September 27 has not missed Mega Festa, but has missed that nationwide game window.

Save all three date ranges in the itinerary. Search summaries often quote one window without explaining which programme it controls.

Which AREX train is Pokémon themed?

The named themed service is the AREX Express Train between Incheon Airport and Seoul Station. The Express runs nonstop and uses reserved seating. AREX currently lists a journey of about 43 minutes from Terminal 1 to Seoul Station and 51 minutes from Terminal 2.

The all-stop AREX train is a different service. It is useful for Hongik University, Gimpo Airport and intermediate stations, but the current announcement does not say it receives the Pokémon treatment. Do not buy an Express ticket only because a social post says "airport train." Confirm that the date and departure match the themed operation once AREX publishes its detailed schedule.

The Express can make sense when:

• you are travelling between the airport and Seoul Station;
• a reserved seat helps with children or luggage;
• the themed journey is part of the event you want; or
• your accommodation is convenient to Seoul Station.

The all-stop train can still be the better transport choice when your accommodation is near Hongdae or another intermediate stop. An event wrap does not make a longer transfer sensible.

Use the official AREX site for the timetable and current fare. Ticket vouchers and station designs are reported as limited, so treat them as a possible extra rather than the foundation of the trip.

Plan the airport and Seoul route without dragging luggage around

The four announced points are spread across an airport with two passenger terminals and a city centre. A complete-rally attempt can become a poor arrival-day plan if it requires repeated terminal changes and a cross-city detour.

Arrival-day route

If you land at Incheon and are staying near Seoul Station, use this order:

1. Complete immigration and collect every checked bag.
2. Visit the relevant terminal's HiKR or photo point only if it is open and easy to reach from your path.
3. Take the AREX Express to Seoul Station if it suits the accommodation and published themed schedule.
4. Leave luggage at the accommodation or a planned storage service.
5. Visit HiKR Ground later, when a reservation and opening hours are confirmed.

Do not cross from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 with luggage merely because both appear in the event announcement. The rally instructions have not yet established that every visitor must visit both terminals.

Seoul-day route

HiKR Ground sits at 40 Cheonggyecheon-ro in Jung-gu. The official HiKR information page places it near central Seoul attractions and lists different weekly operations by floor. It currently shows floors 2 to 4 closed on Mondays while floors 1 and 5 operate daily, subject to programme changes.

Full stamp-rally route

Wait for the official rally map before attempting every stop. The announcement links Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Seoul Station and HiKR Ground, but it does not yet explain:

• whether the route must be completed in a fixed order;
• whether both airport terminals are compulsory;
• whether a train ride is required;
• how a stamp is recorded;
• whether a Korean phone number or local account is needed; or
• how many rewards are available each day.

Without those answers, a complete route is an experiment rather than a reliable itinerary.

HiKR Ground reservations need their own check

Current event coverage says floors 2 and 3 at HiKR Ground will require advance reservations. General HiKR Ground admission has usually been free, but that does not prove every event programme is a walk-in activity or free of charge.

Before leaving for HiKR Ground, confirm:

1. the booking page belongs to Pokémon Korea, the Korea Tourism Organization or an officially linked provider;
2. the reservation is for the correct floor and date;
3. the number of people, including children, matches the booking;
4. the confirmation works for a foreign visitor; and
5. the required identification or phone number is stated on the official page.

There is no verified autumn rule saying overseas visitors need a Korean phone number. There is also no verified rule promising they do not. A spring visitor discussion about phone registration is useful warning material, not evidence of the autumn process.

What the spring crowd suspension changes

Pokémon Korea suspended a spring Mega Festa stamp rally in Seoul on May 1 after an unexpectedly large crowd created safety concerns. Public visitor reports described long waits and a changed entry process.

That history does not mean the autumn event will be cancelled. The autumn route is more distributed, runs for more than three weeks and includes airport and rail locations. It does mean visitors should avoid treating the opening weekend, a limited giveaway or a single reservation slot as guaranteed.

Use these safeguards:

• avoid opening day if the only objective is a photo or exhibit available throughout the run;
• keep children, luggage and mobility needs out of an unverified queue;
• check official accounts before travelling across the city;
• leave if staff suspend entry or crowd movement becomes uncomfortable; and
• keep a nearby alternative that does not require another ticket.

Never use a crowd report from spring as a live autumn wait time. Capacity controls can change by venue and day.

Merchandise, train vouchers and rally rewards

Reports mention a HiKR Ground pop-up, event goods, station-specific ticket vouchers and a stamp-rally reward. Complete release times, purchase limits and daily stock have not been published in the sources reviewed for this guide.

If merchandise matters, check four things on the morning of the visit: venue, sales floor, purchase limit and restock policy. A product appearing in a preview image does not prove it will remain in stock when you arrive.

Do not buy an airport journey only to chase a limited paper ticket unless AREX confirms where and when it is issued. A normal valid rail ticket still controls travel. A collectible voucher does not provide a seat unless the official terms say it does.

• Papago: useful for Korean text, signs and short conversations.
• Airline and airport apps: use them for terminal, gate and baggage changes before adding an event stop to arrival day.

Save HiKR Ground, Seoul Station, the correct airport terminal and the accommodation as offline notes. A map pin is more reliable than a translated venue name typed from memory.

Data and battery planning

Pokémon GO, navigation, transport checks and shared photos can drain a phone faster than an ordinary museum visit. Start with a charged battery and carry a power bank that complies with the airline's cabin-baggage rules. Download the central Seoul map and save the reservation confirmation before joining a queue.

Announcement stories can tell you that the event exists. They cannot supply the data connection needed to reopen a reservation, check the live game area, compare AREX departures or message the group after plans change.

Do I need a reservation for HiKR Ground?
