Pokémon World Championships 2026 guide: passes, venues and travel

The 2026 Pokémon World Championships and the first PokémonXP run from Friday, August 28 through Sunday, August 30 in San Francisco. Most competition and fan activity is at Moscone Center. The finals move to Chase Center on Championship Sunday.

That venue split is the detail most likely to spoil a first visit. A Sunday pass for Moscone is not the same as arena access at Chase Center, and the Pokémon Center store has its own reservation step for registered attendees. Read the exact entitlement in your confirmation before booking a flight around one session.

This guide was checked on August 5, 2026. The public single-day interest list is closed, the daily activity schedule is live, and more event policies are still due. Recheck the official registration account and event site during the week of August 24.

Start with the pass, not the flight

PokémonXP spectator access uses an interest-list and invitation process. The official PokémonXP page now says the single-day interest list is closed. If you joined it, watch the email address used for registration and sign in through the official event site. An email that offers an opportunity to register is not useful until the registration is completed and the pass appears in the account.

The practical rule is blunt: if your confirmation does not say Arena Experience or Chase Center access, do not plan to enter the finals. Current fan discussions include Sunday pass holders asking whether they should go to Moscone or Chase. The official wording resolves that question more reliably than a resale description or a comment thread.

Avoid offers that ask for payment before you can verify how the pass is assigned. Do not post a badge code, QR code or registration email in a public group. If the organizer does not provide a supported transfer route, a stranger's screenshot is not a substitute.

What happens at Moscone Center?

Worlds is the competitive finale for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, video games, Pokémon GO and Pokémon UNITE. The company says more than 3,000 players are expected. Competition begins at Moscone Center, with side events and spectator areas around the tournament.

PokémonXP adds the fan-convention side of the weekend. The official experience page lists panels, workshops, a Garden Stage in Yerba Buena Gardens, an autograph room, Play Lab, exhibitor areas, cosplay programming and the Pokémon Center store. The daily schedule is now live through the registration site.

Some small activities use separate interest lists because capacity is limited. If you already registered, open the account and check every selected activity rather than building the day around a wishlist. Leave gaps between panels. Moscone covers three buildings, and a ten-minute changeover can disappear in a queue or a wrong hallway.

The Pokémon Center store is not a public walk-in shop. PokémonXP says it is limited to registered PokémonXP and Worlds attendees. Those attendees are due to receive a separate invitation to reserve a shopping time in early August. Check the account and spam folder, but do not assume the event badge alone guarantees any time slot or product.

What changes on Championship Sunday?

Finals and trophy ceremonies move to Chase Center on Sunday. PokémonXP and other listed activity continue at Moscone, so a Sunday single-day holder still has a Moscone day even without the arena entitlement. The official schedule is the right place to decide whether those Sunday activities justify the trip.

Do not travel to Chase Center merely because the pass says Sunday. Open the confirmation and find the arena wording first. People with Arena Experience access should also check the final door and ticket instructions because Chase Center normally uses mobile entry and does not allow re-entry.

There is a useful transport advantage: the T Third connects the two venues directly. From Yerba Buena/Moscone station, take a southbound T train to UCSF/Chase Center. The published stop list runs through 4th and Brannan, 4th and King and Mission Rock before the arena. Check SFMTA alerts before leaving because weekend work can replace part of a rail route with buses.

A realistic three-day plan

Thursday, August 27

Arrive early enough to settle the hotel, load Clipper, test the event account and walk the route to Moscone. Pokémon Worlds Night takes place at Oracle Park that evening. The special Pikachu jersey package is sold out, but the Giants still list regular game tickets for the drone show and Pokémon GO activity. Buy only if the baseball game fits the budget and arrival time.

Friday, August 28

Use the first morning for the competition area or PokémonXP activity that matters most. Learn the building layout before adding shopping. If a Pokémon Center reservation appears in the account, treat that time as fixed and place flexible activities around it.

Saturday, August 29

This is the better day for anything missed on Friday, not a second copy of an overfilled schedule. San Francisco Travel also lists a free outdoor screening of Pokémon Detective Pikachu in Union Square that evening. Check the current event page, bring a layer and leave enough time to reach the screening after Moscone.

Sunday, August 30

Split the plan by the pass. Arena Experience holders go to Chase Center at the instructed time. Other Sunday pass holders use the Moscone schedule. Ticketless visitors can follow the official streams rather than traveling to an arena they cannot enter.

What can you do without a PokémonXP pass?

Do not fly to San Francisco expecting a walk-up badge. The interest list is closed, and the Pokémon Center is restricted to registered attendees.

There are still honest options:

• Watch the official Pokémon streams. Pikalytics links the Pokémon Twitch channel and lists San Francisco as Pacific Time, which is UTC-7 in August.
• Attend Pokémon Worlds Night at Oracle Park on August 27 with a valid Giants ticket. The jersey package is sold out, but the current page lists a drone show and Pokémon GO routes, raids and research for game attendees.
• Check the free Pokémon Detective Pikachu screening listed by San Francisco Travel for August 29 in Union Square.
• Visit San Francisco independently. Do not assume the Garden Stage, store or Moscone lobby will admit people without event credentials.

Ticketless plans should stand on their own. A flight and hotel are poor bets when the whole weekend depends on an unsupported resale message.

Getting to Moscone Center

Moscone Center is in SoMa at Third and Howard streets. The venue's current directions distinguish its buildings:

• Montgomery BART and Muni station is the venue's recommendation for Moscone North and South.
• Powell station is the recommendation for Moscone West.
• Yerba Buena/Moscone on the T Third is the most direct rail stop for the campus and the direct route to Chase Center.
• Caltrain's 4th and King station is within walking distance for visitors arriving from the Peninsula or San Jose.

There is no public parking inside Moscone Center. A rental car adds garage cost and convention traffic without solving the downtown part of this trip. Most visitors staying near a BART or Muni route can handle the weekend without one.

From San Francisco International Airport, BART says trains take about 30 minutes to downtown. The airport station is in the International Terminal and connects to every terminal by the free AirTrain. Each rider age five or older needs a separate contactless payment method or Clipper card. BART no longer sells paper tickets.

From Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport, use the airport connector to BART and plan the downtown transfer in the BART app. Late arrivals should check the actual service end time before flying, not a generic weekday estimate.

Getting to Chase Center

Chase Center is at Third and 16th streets in Mission Bay. The T Third stops directly outside. Travelers coming through Powell BART can follow the underground connection to Union Square/Market Street and take the T toward Sunnydale.

SFMTA says a Chase Center event ticket is also valid as Muni fare for the event day, except on cable cars. Keep the Chase Center entitlement ready for inspection and confirm the final Pokémon event instructions before relying on it. A Moscone-only pass should not be treated as a Chase Center ticket.

Parking is limited and event traffic slows the neighborhood. Chase Center calls itself a transit-first destination. If a rideshare is necessary, use the designated pickup and drop-off instructions and expect post-event surge demand. Save the T Third route and a walking route before entering the arena.

For accommodation, SoMa or the eastern side of Union Square is simpler for Friday and Saturday at Moscone. Mission Bay is closer to Chase Center but less convenient for the first two event days. A direct T Third or short walking route is more practical than a distant room that requires several late-night transfers.

Bags, costumes and items

The organizer had not published one complete event-specific bag and cosplay policy on the public Worlds pages when this guide was checked. Do not fill that gap with last year's rules.

Chase Center's current visitor policy prohibits backpacks of any size and bags larger than 14 x 6 x 14 inches. Bags are screened, and an outside bag check is listed on Warriors Way. Event management can make the rule stricter. Pack to the final Pokémon event notice even if it is stricter than the general maximum.

Moscone and Chase Center are separate security environments. Something admitted to a workshop or cosplay area at Moscone may still be refused at the arena. This matters for large card binders, camera equipment, costume props and shopping bags. Leave anything uncertain at the hotel before Championship Sunday.

PokémonXP invites registered attendees to apply for its Cosplay Showcase through the registration account. That does not establish permission for every prop or costume part at Chase Center. Ask the organizer before traveling with a replica weapon, rigid prop or item that cannot fit the final bag rule.

Carry a government photo ID if the registration instructions require it, a permitted water bottle only when the final policy allows one, essential medicine, a small battery and the correct cable. Keep purchases light enough to manage on transit.

San Francisco layers and footwear

San Francisco in August is not a guaranteed hot-weather trip. The city tourism office recommends layers because conditions can change within a few blocks. A light windbreaker or sweater and comfortable shoes are more useful than packing only for California heat.

Moscone is indoors, but Yerba Buena Gardens, station walks and Chase Center queues are not. Check the National Weather Service forecast each morning. Keep a layer accessible rather than buried under merchandise.

If flying with a battery, review the current power-bank rules. Keep it in carry-on baggage with the capacity label visible and follow the operating airline's limit.

Accessibility, children and sensory needs

Moscone Center states that its permanent facilities meet ADA access requirements, including ramps, lifts, door widths and accessible restrooms. The event organizer remains responsible for temporary seating, queues and programme access. Contact PokémonXP about event-specific assistance before arrival. Moscone does not keep wheelchairs for attendee rental.

Chase Center lists accessible entrances, companion lanes, courtesy wheelchair escorts, assistive listening devices, family restrooms, lactation space, wellness rooms and sensory bags. It also has a no re-entry policy. Request an ASL interpreter at least ten business days ahead when possible, and use the arena's accessible-services contact for seat or entry questions.

For children, choose fewer activities and protect meal time. The official pass ages define youth as 6 to 17, while children 5 and under have separate pricing. A child's free or low-cost pass does not remove the need for their own registration and arena entitlement where required.

Set one meeting point outside the densest entry line. Put the hotel address and an adult contact in each child's pocket. A family restroom or sensory room helps only when everyone knows where it is before the crowd becomes tiring.

Phone setup for the event weekend

Install only the tools the weekend needs:

• Pokémon registration account: pass details, daily schedule, activity selections and Pokémon Center reservation.
• MuniMobile or a trusted transit app: live Muni service and T Third alerts.
• BART app and Clipper: airport and regional rail planning, with a separate fare method for each rider age five or older.
• Pokémon GO: useful only for the official Oracle Park activity or other published in-game plans.
• Chase Center or the ticket app named in the final arena email: use the organizer's actual mobile-entry route rather than guessing.
• Weather app: check downtown and Mission Bay before leaving the hotel.

Save an offline folder with the pass confirmation, order number, schedule, venue maps, hotel address, return route, emergency contacts and support details. A screenshot is a backup reference, not proof that an animated or rotating mobile ticket will scan.

Does a Sunday single-day pass include Chase Center?

The official Sunday single-day description does not list arena access. Treat it as Moscone access unless the confirmation explicitly includes the Arena Experience or Chase Center.

Is there anything at Moscone Center on Sunday?

Yes. The official daily schedule lists Sunday activity at Moscone. Check it against your pass before deciding whether to attend without arena access.

Can I buy a PokémonXP pass at the door?

Do not plan on it. The public single-day interest list is closed, and the organizer does not advertise walk-up admission.

An event announcement can tell you where Pokémon Worlds is happening. A usable trip plan must also survive a separate arena entitlement, a missed store email, a changed train and a slow network.
