BBC Radio 2 in the Park takes over City Park, Stirling from Friday, September 11 through Sunday, September 13, 2026. Friday is the pre-party, Chaka Khan headlines Saturday, and Simple Minds close Sunday with what the BBC bills as their only UK performance of 2026.
The awkward part is the journey, particularly from Edinburgh. Planned engineering work is due to close the direct railway between Polmont and Carmuirs, with replacement buses covering part of the route. A normal journey time from an old planner is not a safe estimate for the festival weekend.
The short answer: use the official event transport plan before buying any separate coach. From Edinburgh, allow for a train and replacement-bus journey unless ScotRail publishes another arrangement. Bring one bag no larger than A4, load the ticket before the queue, and decide the return route before entering City Park.

Current event information lists Friday last entry at 9:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday last entry at 9 p.m. Treat those as cutoffs, not target arrival times. Security, walking routes and ticket problems take time.

The bag limit is A4
The event allows one bag per person with maximum dimensions of 21cm by 30cm by 8cm. That is smaller than many everyday backpacks. Measure the packed bag, including bulging pockets.
Essential medical or accessibility items may require a larger bag. Follow the event's access process in advance rather than expecting the standard security lane to decide an exemption.
An empty reusable water bottle is permitted under current guidance. The site is cashless, so carry a physical payment card as backup if a phone wallet fails. Check the prohibited-items list immediately before travel because event security policies can change.
Edinburgh to Stirling during the rail closure
The direct Edinburgh to Stirling line is affected by planned engineering work between Polmont and Carmuirs. Current reporting says passengers should expect rail-replacement buses over the closed section. That adds a transfer, traffic exposure and limited luggage space.
Build the route in this order:
- Open ScotRail for the exact festival date.
- Confirm the rail leg and the replacement-bus boarding point.
- Add time for queuing and loading.
- Check the last return connection, not only the outward journey.
- Save a direct event-coach or road alternative if the return is too tight.
Do not assume a replacement bus waits for every delayed train. Staff instructions and the published connection matter.
Glasgow, Perth and Dundee routes
Current reporting says routes from Glasgow, Perth and Dundee are expected to operate normally, but that is a planning status rather than a guarantee. Festival demand can make ordinary services much busier. Reserve when the operator requires it and avoid the last possible arrival.
Stirling station is still a walk from City Park. Follow event signs because crowd-management routes can differ from the shortest map line.
Park and ride, shuttle buses and taxis
Stirling's event plan uses Castleview Park and Ride as a transport point. Buy only the parking or shuttle product that matches the ticket date and passenger count. A festival coach listing from another seller is not automatically part of the official park-and-ride system.
For taxis and private hire, book the approved pickup location rather than placing a pin beside the entrance. Road restrictions and pedestrian flows can move collection points. Save the driver's contact and agree how long they will wait after the headline set.
Local visitors should consider walking if accommodation is genuinely close and the route is suitable after dark. Keep the return path offline.
Entry, tickets and accessibility
Load the mobile ticket before joining the security queue and turn screen brightness up at the scanner. Keep the order email and booking reference available. A screenshot can help when an email app stalls, but follow the ticket provider's rule if the code changes dynamically.
The event publishes a detailed access guide, including an easy-read version. Review the terrain, viewing arrangements, toilet locations and personal-assistant process before arrival. City Park is an outdoor site below Stirling Castle, so weather and ground conditions matter even when the forecast looks mild.
Bring hearing protection for children and anyone sensitive to loud sound. Pack a waterproof layer that complies with the bag limit. An umbrella may be restricted and is difficult to use in a crowd.
Leaving after the headliner
Thousands of people make the same decision at once. The route that worked at 2 p.m. may be unavailable after 10 p.m. because of queues, road controls or replacement-bus loading.
Choose a group meeting point away from the stage and exits. If the party separates, wait at the agreed place rather than sending everyone toward a moving taxi pin. Keep the accommodation address in a note that works offline.
