Reading Festival 2026 map, camping and travel guide

Reading Festival runs at Richfield Avenue from Thursday, August 27 to Sunday, August 30, 2026. The official 2026 site map is in the Reading Festival app. Open it before leaving home, then save or screenshot it after it loads. You will need it to match your campsite, gate, AIR Hub and route back to the station or pickup point.

Weekend early-entry camping opens at 18:00 on Wednesday, while standard weekend camping opens at 08:00 on Thursday. The music programme runs from Friday to Sunday. Your ticket type changes the whole weekend: a weekend camping wristband permits campsite access and re-entry, while a weekend non-camping ticket does not.

This guide was checked on August 22, 2026 against the festival app, current campsite status, organizer travel guidance and Reading Borough Council's August 21 attendee notice. Live gates, set times and transport can still change, so check the app again on your travel day.

Where is the Reading Festival 2026 campsite map?

The current map is inside the official Reading Festival app. The organizer says the app carries tickets, set times, maps and announcements. Reading Borough Council also recommends saving or screenshotting the map because it identifies AIR Hubs, where staff can help if you feel unwell, unsafe or unsure.

Do not plan from an old PDF found in search. Camp names, access points and operational areas have changed. Open the 2026 map in the app, zoom to the details you need, then keep these views available offline:

1. Your entry gate and campsite.
2. The nearest AIR Hub, medical point, toilets and water point.
3. The route between the arena and your tent or accommodation.
4. The route to Reading Station North, Green Gate or the correct pickup area.
5. A staffed meeting place for your group.

Pinning a tent is useful, but it is not enough on its own. Record the camp name and a numbered or staffed landmark as well. A location pin can drift, and a crowded field of similar tents is difficult to read after dark.

Check the exact ticket before planning the weekend

The words "weekend ticket" are not enough in 2026. Open the booking and match it to this table.

Every ticket is exchanged for a wristband at first entry. A wristband is personal and becomes invalid if it is cut, removed or tampered with.

If you have a weekend camping ticket

You can move between the arena and campsite and can leave the wider site while your wristband remains valid. That freedom makes it possible to keep most supplies at the tent and take only an arena-size bag into the music area.

Do not confuse standard camping with early entry. Standard weekend campers enter from Thursday morning. The festival says there will be no separate early-entry passes to buy later, so a Wednesday arrival only works when early entry is already part of the booking.

If you have a weekend non-camping ticket

Plan each day as one continuous visit. Once you leave, you cannot return that day. Eat, collect medication, charge the phone and bring the permitted layer you may need after sunset before passing the entrance.

You cannot visit friends in the campsites or sleep in a car park. The official 2026 ticket terms also say that combining individual day tickets does not create a camping weekend ticket.

If you have a day or two-day ticket

Use the designated day entrance and allow time for the wristband exchange and walk to the arena. There is no campsite access and no same-day re-entry. If a train home requires you to leave before the final act ends, make that choice before joining a tightly packed viewing area.

Getting to Reading without adding another queue

Train to Reading station

Reading station is the best default for most visitors coming from London or another rail-connected city. The festival estimates a 15 to 20-minute walk, but that is not a promise from the arena gate to a specific platform. Security, crowd routing and station queues can make the full exit much longer.

Leave the station from the northern, Caversham side. Reading Borough Council identifies that as the quickest walking route to the festival, and the festival shuttle uses Station North stop ND. The official advice is to allow at least one hour from the festival exit gate to the train. Last trains on Friday and Saturday are busy and do not run especially late. Check the exact service in National Rail and any planned engineering work shortly before travel.

Bring a valid rail ticket and the railcard used for the discount. Oyster is not valid at Reading station. Contactless payment can work on eligible journeys from the London area, but it does not remove the need to tap correctly at the start and end of the journey. The organizer says trolleys and sack trucks will not be permitted on trains during the event, so pack only what you can carry.

Reading Buses routes 97 and 98

The festival shuttle links Thames Side Promenade near the site with Reading Station North and Friar Street. Route 98 serves Station North stop ND, while route 97 serves Sainsbury's on Friar Street. The current listed fare is GBP 1.70 for one journey or GBP 6.50 for a weekend ticket on the Reading Buses app. Cash is not accepted, although card payment is available.

The organizer still labels the timetable link "check back soon," so use the route and fare information as current but verify the operating times in the Reading Buses app before relying on a late connection.

Free boat from Green Car Park

The authorized free boat runs between Kings Meadow Green Car Park and Green Gate. The published hours are:

Use the official service, not an unregulated boat offered near the river. The timetable helps with planning, but queues and operational changes can still affect the actual crossing time.

Coach

Big Green Coach is the official coach partner. Weekend coaches return on Monday, and day-return coaches are planned after the headline act. Some travelers reported individual departure points being cancelled and refunded in late July, so check the booking status rather than treating an old confirmation email as the final journey.

If a coach is cancelled, compare the complete rail route and the last connection back to your home station. A train to London is only useful when the onward service still runs.

Car, taxi and family pickup

Driving is not the simple option. Green Car Park at Kings Meadow serves day tickets and arrivals from the east or south. White Car Park at Mapledurham is for eligible weekend traffic from the north or west, but it does not provide access for day-ticket holders. The organizer now lists Green weekend passes as sold out, so do not drive there without the correct pass. Green Car Park connects to Green Gate by the official free boat.

Use the pickup point that matches the vehicle:

Do not arrange collection on Richfield Avenue or at either festival car park. Sunday night taxi queues can be long, while the heaviest vehicle exit is expected from 08:00 to 13:00 on Monday.

Road and footpath closures

Reading Borough Council published these closures for the festival period:

• The Thames Path from Scours Lane to the far end of Thameside Promenade closes from 19:00 to 06:00, Thursday through Monday.
• Richfield Avenue closes from 22:30 to 01:00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday between Cardiff Road, Tessa Road and Caversham Road.
• Cow Lane northbound between Portman Road and Cardiff Road is expected to operate from 07:00 to 15:00 on Bank Holiday Monday to help festival traffic leave.

These restrictions matter to walkers as well as drivers. Do not assume the route used in daylight will remain open after the headliner. Save the official pickup area and one alternative walking route before entering the arena.

Heathrow Airport

RailAir runs directly between Heathrow terminals and Reading station. Pre-booking is sensible when the airport transfer sits close to a flight time. Leave room for festival exit queues, the station transfer and airport check-in rather than calculating from the end of the final set.

Camping without carrying the wrong things across the site

The right camp is one your ticket permits and your group can still use. As of August 22, Kindred, Oasis, Vista and Willows are fully subscribed. Orchard is sold out and Glades, the accessible campsite, is at capacity. Lotus and Trailer Park are separate paid options. Fields does not require an advance campsite booking and remains available to weekend camping ticket holders.

A named campsite booking does not replace the festival ticket. The organizer requires the appropriate weekend camping or early-entry ticket as well. Check the booking in the Ticketmaster account used for the ticket before traveling.

Arriving at noon on Thursday does not automatically mean there is no pitch in Fields. It does mean your group should accept that the most convenient areas may fill first. Keep the tent size proportionate to the group, photograph the nearest numbered landmark and pin the location as soon as the tent is up.

Avoid using one distinctive tent color as the whole navigation plan. Thousands of people may own the same tent. Save the camp name, nearest AIR Hub, a map pin and one clear route from the arena gate. Agree on a staffed meeting point if the group gets separated.

The festival bans campfires and disposable barbecues in 2026. Some flat-base cooking stoves and small fuel quantities are permitted only under the detailed campsite rules. Read the live item list before packing fuel or a stove, because confiscated items are not stored for collection later.

Pack for the campsite and arena as two different places

The campsite has no general bag-size limit on first entry, but the arena permits one bag no larger than A4 per person. Every bag may be searched, so taking the maximum size is not always the useful choice.

The organizer strongly advises entering the arena without a bag because searches create longer queues. Keep medication in its original labeled packaging. If loose medication is necessary, bring the prescription. Accessibility customers have separate food, drink and bag allowances described on the official page.

Weather matters more than a long packing list. Bring a waterproof outer layer, dry sleep clothes and footwear that can handle wet grass. Nights can feel much colder than an afternoon forecast suggests. Pack light enough that one person can still carry their own kit from the station or car park to the pitch.

Set up the phone before the first queue

The official Reading Festival app carries the ticket, set times, map and safety announcements. Install it before travel, sign in and confirm that the ticket appears. Do not make the first login attempt at the gate.

Use this phone checklist:

1. Save the mobile festival ticket and the account email used for it.
2. Download the official app, Reading Buses and a rail planner.
3. Open the 2026 site map and save or screenshot the areas you need.
4. Download an offline map covering Reading station, the festival and accommodation.
5. Pin the tent, pickup point and one staffed meeting place.
6. Add emergency contacts and Medical ID details.
7. Carry a charged power bank that meets your airline's rules if you are flying.
8. Keep a payment card and essential journey details available without the phone.

Phone charging is available through the festival's swappable power-bank service, but pre-ordering one is not a substitute for arriving with a charged phone. The organizer specifically reminds rail users to keep enough battery to show a digital train ticket.

Mobile data at a crowded festival

A United Kingdom Roaming eSIM plan can provide data for tickets, maps, transport changes and group messages while the usual SIM remains available. It cannot guarantee normal speed when a large crowd is using the same local network.

Save the ticket, set-time plan, meeting points and journey home for offline use. Mobile data helps when plans change, but it should not be the only place the plan exists.

Welfare, access and going solo

AIR Hubs, medical facilities and wellbeing tents operate around the arena and campsites. Learn the nearest staffed location when you arrive. In an immediate emergency, alert a steward, security officer or police officer, or call 999 if you cannot reach staff.

Approved accessibility customers can use dedicated entrance lanes, viewing facilities, accessible toilets, a Changing Places unit and a sensory calm tent. The GLADES campsite includes accessible showers, routes, medication refrigeration and charging for wheelchairs or medical equipment. Apply and confirm arrangements with the festival accessibility team before travel.

Going alone does not require a separate itinerary, but it does remove the fallback of borrowing a friend's phone or following their campsite pin. Share the accommodation or camp location with someone at home. Keep the return route and emergency contact outside the festival app. If you meet people through a public group, use a staffed public location and keep control of your ticket, phone and transport.

Leaving on Sunday night or Monday morning

Choose the exit before the final day.

Leaving after the Sunday headliner

Check the exact last train and work backwards by at least an hour from departure. Add more time if you need the shuttle, have luggage or must cross the campsite first. A set ending before midnight does not mean you can be on a platform minutes later.

Pre-booked private hire may still face traffic and walking restrictions. Use the designated pickup point and agree on a backup if the driver cannot reach it.

Leaving on Monday

The campsite closes at midday. The busiest driving period is expected between 08:00 and 13:00, so there is no magic queue-free departure. Pack most items on Sunday, keep one dry layer accessible and decide whether an early start or a slower late-morning exit suits the onward booking.

Do not leave the tent behind to save one difficult carry. It becomes waste and does not guarantee useful donation or reuse.

Where can I find the Reading Festival 2026 campsite map?

Use the official Reading Festival app. It carries the current map, ticket, set times and announcements. Open the map before travel and save the relevant views because a busy network or weak battery can make it harder to retrieve at the site.

Can a weekend non-camping ticket leave and re-enter?

No. The official 2026 information and ticket terms say there is no same-day re-entry with a weekend non-camping ticket. A weekend camping wristband has different access.

Can I camp with a non-camping or day ticket?

No. Those ticket types do not permit campsite access, and sleeping in the car parks is prohibited.

Is Thursday a full music day at Reading?

The festival site and campsites are open on Thursday, but the main music programme runs Friday to Sunday. Use Thursday for arrival and campsite setup unless the final app schedule lists a specific activity you want to attend.

Will I find a camping pitch if I arrive Thursday afternoon?

Can I take food and water into the arena?

What size bag can I take into the arena?

One A4-size bag per person is the maximum. The festival advises bringing no bag because every bag adds a security check.

What should I do if the app or mobile data fails?

Move out of the entrance flow, check the phone's time, battery and data line, then use official ticket support. Keep the booking email, account details, map, meeting point and journey home available offline. A screenshot may help with reference details, but it does not replace whatever live ticket validation the organizer requires.

What to check again before August 26

Reopen the official information page, app and transport planners. Confirm the live shuttle timetable, set times, entrance, campsite status, rail engineering, weather, ticket status and any updated prohibited-item rule.

Match the ticket to its access conditions. Pack the campsite and arena separately. Save the way in, the way out and the place your group will meet when messages are delayed. Those decisions matter more than squeezing another item into the bag.
