Sea Witch Festival 2026: parades, parking and travel

Sea Witch Festival runs October 23-25, 2026, in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The costume parade starts at 11:00 on Saturday, October 24; the dog parade is on Sunday. Decide which day you want before booking accommodation, then check the festival parking rules and your return journey.
Start with the Chamber of Commerce's official festival page, which links to an activities schedule updated on October 16. The weekend mixes costumes, children's activities, vendors and performances around the resort. It is not a single show with one arrival time.
There is also an important transport distinction: the regular Jolly Trolley summer shuttle has ended for 2026. Staying in Dewey does not, by itself, give you a running seasonal shuttle into the festival.
Choose a day around the activity you want
The October 16 official schedule separates the main activities as follows. Times are local.
| Day | Selected programme | Planning consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Friday, October 23 | Community Fair at the Bandstand, 12:00-17:00; indoor vendors and Kids' Corner at the Convention Center, 12:00-18:00 | An option for a shorter activity-led visit rather than Saturday's parade |
| Saturday, October 24 | Costume parade at 11:00; indoor Kids' Corner, 09:00-17:00; downtown merchant trick-or-treating, 18:30-19:30 | Leave room for meals and a rest if staying into the evening |
| Sunday, October 25 | Dog-parade registration and judging at 12:00; parade at 13:00 | Participants need to arrive before the parade itself |
Friday's Dewey business trick-or-treating is listed for 18:30-19:30. It is separate from Saturday's Rehoboth session. The schedule also distinguishes indoor activities from weather-dependent outdoor ones; use those labels when making a backup plan.
Do not treat this selection as a complete programme or assume every listed activity has the same admission terms. Check the particular attraction's location, charge and registration instructions before promising it to children.
Saturday closures begin well before the parade
The city's October 7 traffic notice sets out these restrictions:
| When | Restriction |
|---|---|
| Friday, October 23, 01:00-06:00 | No parking in any Rehoboth Avenue space; vehicles may be towed |
| Saturday, October 24, from 01:00 | No Rehoboth Avenue median parking until the parade ends |
| Saturday, from 02:00 | Rehoboth Avenue closed to traffic until fencing is removed, expected around 16:00 |
| Saturday, until 09:30 | First and Second streets remain available for crossing Rehoboth Avenue |
State Road, Sussex Street and Fourth Street are used for lineup closures. Most of Christian Street is affected by fencing preparations; Scarborough Avenue has parking restrictions.
Those times are different from the parade start. Do not plan a vehicle crossing just before 11:00 or assume the road reopens as soon as the final float passes. Follow signs and officials if arrangements change.
Where to park without relying on an ordinary October visit
The festival parking page adds restrictions on Fourth Street and parts of Fifth, Sussex and Kent streets. Read the signs on the actual block rather than assuming a space is legal because someone parked there on another autumn weekend.
After the parade, crews collect unattended chairs, blankets and coolers left on Rehoboth Avenue. The published collection point is the Streets Department office at 20476 Lincoln Street, with retrieval available until 16:00 on Monday, October 26. Take your belongings with you when leaving the viewing area.
For an overnight stay, ask the accommodation two separate questions: is parking included, and can you reach that parking during the closures? A reserved room does not answer the second question. Get the arrival instructions before driving into town.
For a day trip, choose parking and the final leg together. A space some distance away may work well for your group, but only if the walk or bus journey is manageable on the way back too. Avoid setting a fixed departure commitment immediately after the parade.
Park-and-ride is an option to investigate, not a promise of a particular shuttle
DART's current park-and-ride directory lists Rehoboth Beach Park & Ride at DE 1 and Shuttle Road, and Lewes Transit Center at 17616 Coastal Highway. Route 201 appears in their year-round route lists.
That directory does not confirm the festival's exact detour, fare, departure frequency or last bus. Before choosing either lot, check current DART routes and rider alerts, or call its route information line at 800-652-3278, option 1.
Have the following details settled before leaving the car:
- Which bus serves your lot on your chosen day?
- Where will it drop you during the closures?
- Where is the return stop, and when is the last usable departure?
- What fare or pass does your party need?
- What are the current stroller, mobility-device and pet carriage rules for that service?
Save the return stop on a map. A familiar summer stop or an old festival leaflet is not enough to establish where the bus will collect you this year.
The regular Rehoboth-Dewey Jolly Trolley is not running its summer season
The operator's seasonal shuttle page explicitly says its 2026 summer service has ended. It separately advertises vehicles for year-round reservations. A private booking is not the same thing as a scheduled public shuttle that anyone can board.
If your accommodation suggests the trolley, ask which specific service it means and obtain a current confirmation. Do that before choosing a hotel mainly for proximity to a summer shuttle stop.
Watching the costume parade and entering it are different plans
If you want to participate rather than watch, read the official 2026 parade application and rules. The published September 25 application deadline for motorized entries, bands and walking groups larger than 20 has passed. Contact the Chamber before making a late group-entry plan; submission does not guarantee acceptance.
Individual costumed walkers register and line up at Fourth Street, with registration at the 305 Rehoboth Avenue parking lot. Follow the officials' directions, rather than joining the moving parade from a spectator position.
Saturday's parade rules exclude pets. Sunday's dog parade is a separate event, not permission to bring an animal into Saturday's procession. Anyone entering the dog parade should check its own registration requirements with the organizer.
For spectators, agree on a meeting place before spreading out. Use a specific address or landmark away from the moving route, not a message saying only "near the parade." Keep crossings and other visitors' routes clear.
With children, leave room to change the plan
For younger children, choose one activity they want and one place to pause before adding an evening session. A full day of waiting, a parade and trick-or-treating is a different outing from an hour at an indoor activity.
Pack layers and rain protection appropriate to the forecast, plus whatever your family needs for snacks and changes. Check toilets and food options on the current festival map when you arrive. Ask about step-free entrances or changing facilities at the actual venue if those determine whether your group can use it.
For teenagers, let them choose part of the day rather than assuming that a beach town or costume event will suit them automatically. If the priority is a quiet boardwalk weekend, consider whether parade weekend is the right match at all.
Our United States with kids guide covers broader regional trip choices. This festival plan is for Rehoboth's particular October weekend, not a recommendation to cross the country for every activity on the programme.
Check cancellation information before setting off
The parade rules state that the costume parade is weather-dependent and has no rain date. They identify the Chamber's website and social channels, local radio and its visitor information line, 302-227-2233, as cancellation channels.
Check again before travel. An indoor activity being listed as rain-or-shine does not establish that the outdoor parade will run, and a sunny photograph from a previous year is not a forecast.
If you have prepaid accommodation or transport, read those booking terms separately. Event cancellation does not tell you whether a different business will refund your booking.
Useful apps and an offline copy of the plan
DART's mobile-app guidance distinguishes DART Transit, for trip planning, real-time bus information and rider alerts, from DART Pass, for mobile fare payment. Check the journey first, then the fare product it requires.
Keep the official festival page, your accommodation instructions and a saved map of your return stop available on your phone. Share the meeting point with companions before arrival. Download the relevant programme pages while on Wi-Fi, and carry enough battery for the return journey.
For international visitors whose usual plan does not include enough US data, OpenSim United States plans provide a defined allowance for transport checks, retrieving bookings and messaging. The public catalog checked on October 17 listed 5 GB for 30 days at USD 6.80, with top-up available for that plan. Confirm the selected package's current terms before purchase.
If your existing service already covers the trip, another plan may be unnecessary. No data package guarantees service in a crowded place or replaces an offline meeting point. Use the travel data calculator, phone compatibility guide and installation timing guide to prepare.
Sources and date checks
OpenSim editorial team checked the linked Chamber, city, transport and public catalog information on October 17, 2026, including the activities schedule dated October 16. Programme choices above are selected examples, not a claim that every venue or activity has been visited.
Check the official festival page for later schedule, access, weather or transport changes before departing. These dates and restrictions apply to the 2026 event, not every October weekend.
