Sky Mobile free global roaming is now live for Diamond VIP customers
August 5, 2026. Sky Mobile now lets eligible Sky VIP Diamond customers use their UK data, calls and texts in 120 destinations without the usual £2 daily Roaming Passport Plus charge. The benefit went live on July 20 and applies across all Sky Mobile data plans.
The headline needs an eligibility check. Diamond is Sky's tier for customers who have been with the company for more than 15 years. A new Sky Mobile customer does not qualify simply by joining Sky Mobile, and a long-standing Sky customer still needs an active Sky Mobile plan.
The practical point: Check Diamond status before treating this as included roaming. Eligible travelers can use a valuable existing benefit. Everyone else still pays £2 for each activated 24-hour Roaming Passport Plus period, or can compare a separate Roaming eSIM for the trip.
What changed with Sky Mobile free global roaming?
Sky expanded Roaming Passport Plus from 55 to 120 destinations earlier in 2026. The July announcement did not create another destination list. It removed the £2 daily pass charge for Diamond VIP customers who use Sky Mobile in those destinations.
Sky says the benefit works on every Sky Mobile data plan. It uses the allowance already attached to the plan, including available Sky Piggybank data where the normal Roaming Passport Plus terms permit it. It does not add unlimited roaming data to a limited plan.

Who qualifies for Sky VIP Diamond roaming?
Three conditions must line up:
- The Sky account has Diamond VIP status after more than 15 years with Sky.
- The customer has an active Sky Mobile plan.
- The phone is in one of the 120 listed Roaming Passport Plus destinations.
The announcement says the benefit applies to Diamond customers who already use Sky Mobile and to Diamond customers who join it later. It does not say that someone can reach Diamond by taking a long mobile contract today. VIP status reflects the wider Sky relationship.
Households with several SIMs should check each line in the Sky account before travel. Sky states that the 25GB roaming limit is per SIM, but its public announcement does not clearly explain every multi-SIM account combination. The account holder can confirm which numbers show the benefit rather than assuming that one Diamond badge settles every line.
How the included roaming activates abroad
There is no separate app, eSIM installation or travel-pass purchase. Sky describes the Diamond benefit as Roaming Passport Plus at no extra cost. In a listed destination, it activates after the phone uses more than 10MB of mobile data in a day or makes a call or sends a text to a UK number.
Roaming Passport Plus operates in 24-hour periods. Sky says customers receive a text when a period starts and another before it ends. That timing matters even when the Diamond price is £0 because it helps identify whether the phone has joined the intended benefit.
Before leaving the UK:
- Open Sky VIP and confirm that the account says Diamond.
- Check the live destination list rather than relying on an old screenshot.
- Note the Sky Mobile plan allowance and bill-cycle reset date.
- Set a voicemail PIN and save Sky's support number for calls from abroad.
- Check the monthly spend cap, particularly if local calls or excess data may be needed.
- Download the first route, accommodation address and booking references for offline use.
After landing, turn off airplane mode and enable data roaming for the Sky line if mobile data is needed. If the welcome or activation text does not arrive after qualifying use, restart the phone, check that automatic network selection is on and use Sky's roaming-problem guide before changing APN settings.
The 25GB roaming cap can be lower than the UK plan
Sky applies a 25GB mobile-data fair-use limit per SIM in each billing cycle while Roaming Passport Plus is used. That limit also applies to Diamond customers receiving the pass at no extra cost.
The usable amount is the lower of two numbers: the data left in the customer's UK allowance and the remaining part of the 25GB roaming limit. A customer with 8GB left cannot use 25GB. A customer with a larger or unlimited UK allowance can still reach the 25GB roaming threshold.
Sky says data above the roaming threshold is charged on a prorated per-GB basis. The current tariff guide controls the actual charge, so check it before continuing to stream, sync photos or use a laptop after a warning text. Calls to local numbers are not the same as calls to the UK
Sky's announcement says eligible customers can use their UK calls and texts abroad. The automatic trigger specifically mentions a call or text to a UK number. That wording does not turn a call to a restaurant, hotel or taxi in another country into a UK call.
Sky's international-calling guidance says calls and texts to international numbers can carry out-of-plan charges, including when made from a Roaming Passport Plus destination. Save UK contacts with the +44 country code and check the tariff guide before calling a local number. App-based calls use mobile data instead, but they draw from the plan allowance and the 25GB roaming cap.

Are hotspot use, 5G and every local network included?
Sky has not promised a particular roaming partner, 5G connection or hotspot result in every covered destination. The destination list confirms where Roaming Passport Plus is offered, not which signal will reach a specific hotel, road or railway.
If hotspot access is essential for work, confirm the current Sky plan and device rules before treating it as guaranteed. A local partner can also restrict a feature or network generation even when ordinary phone data works.
The 120-destination list covers terrestrial mobile networks. It is not evidence that cellular service on a cruise ship, ferry or aircraft is included. Keep airplane mode on at sea or in the air unless the operator clearly identifies a terrestrial network and its charges. Re-enable the intended line near port or after landing.
Which destinations are included?
Sky's current Roaming Passport Plus list spans the EU and EEA plus destinations such as the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, India, Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa and China. It also includes territories that may appear separately in tariff tables.
Do not convert the 120 figure into a promise of worldwide service. Japan is not on the published July list, for example, and neither are all island territories. Border areas can also connect to a network from a neighboring destination with different terms. Check the live Sky destination list for every stop, including connections and side trips.
Sky Mobile roaming versus Roaming eSIM
An eligible Diamond customer with enough UK data should generally use the included Sky benefit. It keeps the usual number and costs no extra roaming-pass fee in the covered list. Buying a second plan without a separate need would not beat £0 included use.
Roaming eSIM has a real advantage when the traveler is not Diamond, the destination is outside Sky's list, a separate data allowance is useful, or the itinerary needs a country or regional plan chosen independently of a UK mobile contract.

🏆 Roaming eSIM wins on access and trip-specific choice: it does not require a 15-year Sky relationship. Travelers can compare live packages for the route, keep the Sky line available for incoming texts and give travel data its own allowance.
That advantage is about eligibility and control, not a claim that a paid Roaming eSIM costs less than Sky's included Diamond benefit. For a qualifying customer with suitable coverage and enough data, Sky is the better-value first choice.

- Does the benefit work on a cruise or aircraft network? The 120-destination list does not include maritime or in-flight networks. Keep the cellular line off until a terrestrial network and its terms are clear.
- When is Roaming eSIM the better fit? When the traveler is not Diamond, wants a separate data budget, needs another destination or prefers a trip plan independent of Sky Mobile.
