United Newark-Dominica flights return: winter guide
United's seasonal nonstop flights between Newark Liberty International Airport and Dominica are scheduled to return on October 17, 2026, with service on Wednesdays and Saturdays through April 24, 2027. The outbound flight is UA2849 from EWR to Douglas-Charles Airport, DOM. The return is UA2848.
This is not a new route. United launched the link in February 2025 and later added a second weekly flight. The first service of the new winter period was still in progress when this guide was reviewed, so the October 17 date is the published seasonal start, not a claim that the complete round trip has operated.

The practical answer: Wednesday and Saturday are the useful anchors, but the local times move when daylight saving time changes in New Jersey. Search the exact date, confirm UA2849 or UA2848 on the issued itinerary, and leave room for a limited-frequency recovery if the flight changes.
Airline, government, airport, schedule and OpenSim catalog details were reviewed on October 17, 2026.
The winter 2026-27 operating pattern
Dominica's government approved the second weekly service for Wednesdays and Saturdays. Its published winter window runs from October 17, 2026, through April 24, 2027.
Current schedule data shows this opening pattern:
| Direction | Flight | October 17, 21 and 24 local times | Planned days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Newark (EWR) to Dominica (DOM) | UA2849 | 08:46 to 13:19 | Wednesday and Saturday |
| Dominica (DOM) to Newark (EWR) | UA2848 | 14:45 to about 19:37 | Wednesday and Saturday |
Those clock times do not stay fixed all winter. Dominica remains on Atlantic Standard Time. New Jersey changes clocks, so November and March schedules show different local arrival times even when the flight duration changes only slightly. United's booking result and issued itinerary should decide the time for a specific date.
The schedule currently files a Boeing 737-700. Aircraft assignments can change for operational reasons, and the photo above is not the route aircraft. Do not choose a fare or seat by treating a third-party aircraft listing as a guarantee.
Why two weekly flights change the planning
Two nonstops per week create useful four-night, seven-night and ten-night shapes. They also leave fewer simple recovery options than a daily route.
Before buying separate accommodation, ferry or onward tickets, check what happens if the nonstop moves to the next operating day. A protected itinerary on one ticket gives the airline responsibility for the sold connection. Separate tickets leave the traveler carrying more of the missed-connection and rebooking risk.
The route's February 2025 launch confirms that October 2026 is a seasonal return, not an inaugural service. That distinction matters when reading old announcements or search results that still describe Newark-Dominica as new.
Booking, bags and Newark connections
Search Newark, EWR, and Dominica, DOM, for the exact travel dates. Then check the operating carrier, local departure and arrival times, fare conditions, baggage allowance and whether every segment is on one ticket.
United says online check-in normally opens 24 hours before departure, while minimum check-in and bag deadlines vary by airport and destination. A boarding pass on the phone does not override the airport cutoff. Use the live reservation and United's current check-in guidance rather than copying a time from another international route.
Baggage depends on the fare, ticket, status and itinerary. Check the allowance displayed in the booking and receipt. A small aircraft cabin can also require an otherwise acceptable roller bag to be checked at the gate, so keep passports, medication, batteries and essential electronics in the personal item that stays with you.
For a domestic connection into Newark before UA2849, recheck the gate and terminal in the United app or airport displays. Newark Airport's connection guide warns that some terminal changes require another security screening.
On the return, the United States does not provide sterile international transit. US Customs and Border Protection says an arriving traveler must collect checked baggage, take it through customs and recheck it before an onward US flight. Leave enough time for immigration, baggage delivery, customs, recheck, a possible terminal transfer and TSA screening.
Complete Dominica's free ED card
Dominica's official immigration and customs declaration is at edcard.dominica.gov.dm. The government says it should be submitted no more than three days before travel. Save the QR-code confirmation offline or print it.
The form is free. Avoid websites that charge for completing it. A declaration is also separate from permission to enter: passport and visa rules depend on nationality, status and trip length. Check Dominica's official visa guidance for the traveler rather than inferring the rule from a US visa or residence permit.
Plan the Douglas-Charles airport transfer
Douglas-Charles Airport is on Dominica's northeast coast. It is not in Roseau, and the road to the capital is long and winding. Discover Dominica directs arriving passengers to the airport taxi dispatch.
The government's current tariff lists a shared shuttle from Douglas-Charles to Roseau, Canefield or Newtown at EC$80 and a private hire at EC$200. Confirm the destination, sharing arrangement, price and payment method with the dispatch desk before leaving.
Public questions repeatedly focus on whether a late-afternoon bus to Roseau will be available. Do not build the arrival around an unconfirmed minibus. Prearrange a pickup when the accommodation is outside the airport area, the party has substantial luggage, or a missed transfer would leave no practical backup. Travelers prone to motion sickness should prepare before the cross-island drive.
Mobile data on both sides of the route
OpenSim's live catalog includes a Dominica eSIM and a United States eSIM. The Dominica catalog check on October 17 returned ten packages, including fixed-data and daily options. Prices, allowances and availability can change, so use the live cards rather than a price quoted in an article.
Check the selected plan's allowance, validity, network, hotspot terms, speed policy and top-up field before purchase. Most current Dominica plans are top-up eligible, but the 500MB daily option was not at the review cutoff. Never assume that every package can be reloaded.
A travel eSIM provides data on supported ground networks. It does not provide inflight Wi-Fi, guarantee reception on every mountain road, change airline rules or protect a separate connection. Install on reliable Wi-Fi, save the setup steps, and keep the driver and accommodation details available offline.
For broader island planning, use the Dominica with kids guide. The separate Contour Dominica-Trinidad guide owns that route's timetable and entry decisions.
Ten questions about United's Newark-Dominica flights
Is Newark-Dominica a new United route?
No. United launched weekly nonstop service on February 15, 2025. October 17, 2026, is the published start of the 2026-27 winter period.
Which days does United fly between Newark and Dominica?
The published pattern is Wednesday and Saturday in both directions through April 24, 2027. Confirm the selected date in United's booking system because schedules can change.
What are the United flight numbers?
UA2849 is scheduled from Newark to Dominica. UA2848 is the return from Dominica to Newark.
Why do the local flight times change during winter?
Dominica keeps Atlantic Standard Time year-round, while New Jersey changes clocks. The published local arrival times therefore shift around the US daylight saving changes.
Is a Boeing 737-700 guaranteed?
No. Current schedule data files a 737-700, but airlines can substitute aircraft. Use the live seat map and reservation for the operating plan.
How early should I arrive for the Dominica flight?
Use United's airport-specific guidance and arrive with time for document checks, baggage and security. Online check-in does not cancel the applicable airport or bag deadline.
Do I need Dominica's online entry form?
Yes. Submit the free official ED card no more than three days before travel and save its QR confirmation. Visa and passport rules are separate.
Is there a reliable bus from Douglas-Charles Airport to Roseau?
Do not assume one will meet the flight. The official tourism guidance directs arrivals to taxi dispatch, and the government publishes shared-shuttle and private-hire tariffs. Confirm the transport before arrival.
Do I collect my bag when connecting in Newark after the return flight?
Yes for entry into the United States. Collect the checked bag, clear customs and follow the recheck instructions before the onward flight. You may also need a terminal transfer and another TSA screening.
Can a Dominica eSIM replace United's inflight Wi-Fi?
No. A Dominica eSIM uses supported mobile networks on the ground. Inflight connectivity is a separate airline service, and ground coverage can vary with terrain.
A final Newark-Dominica checklist
Confirm the flight date, local time, flight number and operating status from United. Read the baggage line on the issued ticket, complete the official ED card, verify passport-specific entry rules and arrange the Douglas-Charles transfer. If the itinerary includes a separate connection, keep a workable recovery option for the route's twice-weekly pattern.
This page should be updated after independent confirmation of the first complete winter round trip, and whenever United or Dominica materially changes the operating period, weekdays, times, aircraft, baggage, entry process or airport transport.
