Unlimit Mobile announced UK SIM and eSIM plans for incoming Indian students on August 27, 2026. The main difference from a typical travel-data package is the UK mobile number: the company says a student can complete digital identity checks, install the eSIM and receive the number before leaving India.
That can be useful for accommodation, university and family contacts. It does not make this the right plan for every student. Unlimit's current UK product page mixes prepaid language with 6- and 12-month options, advertises unlimited data subject to high-speed and fair-use limits, and gives inconsistent descriptions of the UK host network. A buyer should confirm the exact plan summary before paying.
The short answer: Unlimit Mobile is built for a student who needs a UK number, ordinary calls and SMS, and a longer local service. Roaming eSIM is the simpler data-first choice for arrival, a shorter visit or a multi-country trip when a UK number is not required. Its public catalog shows the allowance, validity, price basis, network list and top-up status for each current plan.
What Unlimit Mobile launched for UK-bound students
The August 27 announcement describes local UK service that can be arranged before departure. It is aimed at Indian students starting a UK university term, although the company also presents the plans to other newcomers.
The published offer includes:
- a UK mobile number;
- mobile data on 4G or 5G where available;
- unlimited UK calls and SMS under the selected plan;
- digital identity verification without a UK credit history or local bank account;
- eSIM installation before departure on a compatible, carrier-unlocked phone; and
- 6- and 12-month options mentioned in the launch announcement.
The word “contract-free” needs context. The announcement promotes 6- and 12-month terms, while the product page also says “no lock-in” and “exit anytime.” Unlimit's UK terms say a customer may cancel a pay-monthly agreement at the end of its minimum term or earlier subject to any early-termination charge disclosed at purchase. Those statements can coexist only if the exact checkout explains which commitment applies to the chosen plan.
Do not rely on the headline alone. Save the plan summary showing the term, renewal setting, cancellation rule, high-speed allowance, roaming scope and total price.

Unlimit's UK product page says unlimited-data options have “premium high-speed monthly data allowances.” Its UK terms go further: after a disclosed high-usage threshold, service can be throttled or deprioritized, particularly during congestion. Hotspot use beyond a plan allowance may also be restricted.
That means a student should find four fields at checkout:
