Winchester Guildhall facade and clock tower photographed in August 2026, before the bonfire event

Winchester's Round Table Bonfire and Fireworks takes place on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at North Walls Recreation Ground. The procession is free, but the display ground needs a wristband. Standard tickets are listed at GBP10 before event day and GBP12 on November 7, subject to availability. Collect new orders in person and plan the journey home before setting off.

The date is Saturday the 7th, not Thursday's traditional November 5 Bonfire Night. There are also two separate travel complications: a weekend M3 closure and altered rail services. Neither is solved by arriving at the usual time with a saved map.

Saturday's procession, bonfire and fireworks times

The organizer's running order lists these approximate times. They can change on the night.

The organizer's pages do not agree on every gate-opening reference: the main timetable says 4:30pm, an older wristband description says around 5:30pm, and a food panel says 6pm. The local rugby club's October 28 notice also lists 4:30pm. Confirm the latest admission instruction before making a meal or assistance plan depend on the earliest time.

You can join the procession without buying display admission. It starts at the Guildhall, follows the High Street and crosses Jewry Street towards the event. Walking with it does not grant entry at the end; everyone entering the ticketed ground needs the appropriate wristband.

Buy the right number of wristbands, then collect them

The current ticket information lists GBP10 standard admission in November, rising to GBP12 on event day. The GBP8 October offer has ended. Compare the final checkout total rather than an old search headline or sale-page label.

Children pay the standard price, including children in pushchairs. The stated exception is a baby carried in arms throughout. A family needing four standard wristbands would therefore pay GBP40 at the listed advance price, against GBP48 at the listed event-day price, before any checkout additions. That is arithmetic, not a family-package offer or an availability guarantee.

Postal orders closed on November 1, and orders from outside the UK require collection. Save the collection attachment or reference from your confirmation email on your phone before travelling. Search your inbox and junk folder for "Winchester Bonfire" if it is missing; do not assume a payment receipt alone is your admission wristband.

The organizer's collection instructions give Abbey Gardens from 10am to 4:30pm and River Park from 4pm. The second booth's car-park name does not mean you can drive in and park there. Arriving in the afternoon leaves time to collect before the procession and avoids trying to do everything just before the fireworks.

Premium Tent tickets are listed separately at GBP55. The organizer recommends that option for groups aged 18 and over, so do not treat it as the default family upgrade.

Driving to Winchester: the M3 closure overlaps the event

National Highways' October 28 announcement closes the M3 in both directions between junctions 8 and 9 from 9pm Friday, November 6, to 6am Monday, November 9 for bridge demolition. That covers the whole bonfire Saturday.

Follow the signed diversion and allow extra time. Do not assume your normal London or Basingstoke approach remains usable because a map app shows the motorway's usual journey time. Check the current closure notice again before departure; planned work can change.

Within Winchester, the event travel advice and walking map show separate restrictions before and after the display. Many pre-display closures are listed for 6pm-8pm, with further restrictions from 8pm-9pm and exceptions on individual roads. Do not interpret 8pm as a city-wide reopening.

The River Park car park is closed for general event parking. Choose a permitted space away from the display and check its exit arrangements. An available parking bay is little use if a crowd-control closure prevents you leaving when planned.

Trains are an option, but Saturday is not a normal timetable

South Western Railway's November engineering notice lists work around Woking and Basingstoke on November 7-8. On Saturday, some London Waterloo services are diverted through Guildford, Havant and Fareham, while other services start at Basingstoke. SWR directs some passengers from Waterloo to Guildford for replacement buses to Basingstoke.

Those are different journeys, not a promise of a direct London-Winchester train. Enter your actual origin, Winchester, Saturday's arrival time and return time in the operator's planner. Check whether each proposed train calls at Winchester, where you change and whether a replacement bus is included. Overnight visitors also need Sunday's separate plan: SWR lists different replacement arrangements on November 8.

Winchester station is on Station Hill. Its facilities include toilets and step-free access, but routes between platforms can involve ramps or lifts; check assistance and lift status for your journey. Leave room for the walk, collection and crowds rather than aim for a train arriving just before 7:45pm.

If the return depends on the final connection, save an earlier workable departure too. A delayed display or a queue outside the ground can erase a narrow margin.

Park & Ride does not provide a post-fireworks return bus

The organizer explicitly warns that Park & Ride buses do not run after the display. The city council's FAQ also describes the normal Saturday service ending earlier in the evening, around 6:30pm. Check the current stop timetable rather than rely on a general parking recommendation.

The distinction matters if you are travelling with children or anyone who cannot manage a long walk after dark. You may be able to park at an outer site, but you still need an appropriate way back to it. Do not tell a tired group that the return bus is included without checking whether one operates at that hour.

The council's parking and charges page separates parking rules from the bus service. Its free-after-4pm arrangement applies to specified East car parks and still requires a machine ticket. Free parking does not extend bus hours. Read the rules for the exact site you choose.

Children, access needs and what to leave at home

The event terms require children aged ten and under to be accompanied by an adult aged at least eighteen. Choose the evening for your own child's tolerance of loud noise, darkness and crowds; a child ticket rule is not a statement that every child will enjoy the display.

The organizer bans personal fireworks, sparklers, drones and camping chairs. Wax torches are for the procession, are not sold to under-18s and must be extinguished before entering the display site. Children should not carry a lit torch.

For the accessible viewing area, the published advice asks ticket holders needing assistance to reach the Nuns Road drop-off by 6:30pm. There is no event parking there, and the field may be muddy. Confirm the approach with the organizer before travelling; do not assume a step-free railway platform makes the entire event route step-free.

Warm layers and footwear suited to wet grass are more useful than a precise forecast copied days ahead. Agree a meeting point before the procession. If you lose contact with a child, tell a steward immediately; the organizer identifies event control by Nuns Road as the lost-children point.

Check cancellation notices before departure. Under the organizer's terms, cancellation initially treats the ticket payment as a charitable donation, with refunds subject to the ticket-agent policy; personal travel and accommodation costs are not covered. Read the applicable terms before committing to a non-refundable stay.

For a longer visit, the United Kingdom with kids guide can help with the rest of the trip. Lewes Bonfire has its own date, entry arrangements and transport restrictions; it is not another entrance to this event.

Phone preparation for collection and the return journey

Download the collection confirmation and a walking map before leaving Wi-Fi. Save the chosen car park or station, accommodation address and return connections somewhere you can open offline. Agree where to regroup if messages are delayed.

The official SWR app provides live departures, delay updates and passenger-assistance options. For parking, the council supports RingGo, but read the site's instructions and any optional fees before paying. Keep ticket collection, train tickets and parking confirmations separate so you can find the right one in a queue.

Visitors whose home plan charges for UK data can compare OpenSim United Kingdom plans. On November 4, the catalog lists 1GB for seven days at USD1.14 and 3GB for fifteen days at USD3.00; those fixed-data plans support top-up. Final availability and checkout totals can change.

A prepaid allowance can keep route updates and family messages available away from Wi-Fi. If your existing plan already includes sufficient UK data without extra cost, another plan may be unnecessary. OpenSim does not reopen a road, replace a rail ticket or guarantee connectivity in a dense crowd. Use the data calculator, check phone compatibility and read installation timing before buying.

Sources and updates

Winchester Round Table provides the event date, running order, ticket and collection rules, walking map and entry conditions. National Highways supplies the M3 closure notice; SWR supplies the weekend engineering and station information. Winchester City Council explains Park & Ride operation and parking conditions.

This guide will be updated for a material ticket, collection, admission, cancellation, motorway, rail or event-access announcement before November 7. Recheck live travel information on the day rather than reuse this weekend's restrictions for a later visit.
