Orchard Road Christmas 2026: dates, lights and village guide

Orchard Road's main Christmas light-up runs from November 17, 2026, to January 3, 2027. The Hilton projection starts earlier, on November 1; Ngee Ann City's village opens November 13, while Shaw House's opens November 20. For an evening with both villages and the street lights, choose November 20 or later.
That difference matters if Singapore is a short stopover. A visit in early November can include the projection, but not the complete light-up. You also do not need to walk the entire decorated road or buy carnival credits to enjoy an evening looking at the lights.

Which parts are open on your travel dates?
The official Christmas on A Great Street programme separates the season into several openings. All times below are Singapore local time.
| Your visit | What to plan around | What is not open yet |
|---|---|---|
| November 1-12 | Hilton Singapore Orchard projection after 19:00 | Both villages and the main street light-up |
| November 13-16 | Ngee Ann City village and the projection | Main street light-up and Shaw House village |
| November 17-19 | Main lights, projection and Ngee Ann City village | Shaw House village |
| November 20-January 3 | Main lights, projection and both villages | Individual pop-ups can still have shorter dates |
November 17's switch-on ceremony is listed from 19:00 at Shaw House Urban Plaza. Do not use the usual nightly starting time as a promise that everything will already be illuminated before that opening ceremony.
Street lights and Hilton projection: different evening hours
The ORBA 2026 fact sheet lists the main light-up hours:
| Night | Main street lights |
|---|---|
| Sunday-Thursday | 18:30-midnight |
| Friday-Saturday | 18:30-02:00 the following morning |
| Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve | 18:30-06:00 the following morning |
The decorated stretch covers Tanglin Road to Dhoby Ghaut, about 3.1 km. That is the full display area, not a distance every visitor needs to complete.
The Hilton projection programme runs 19:00-22:00 daily, extending to 00:30 on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, from November 1 through January 3. A late Friday street walk can therefore still have lights overhead after the projection has finished. If the projection matters to you, make it an earlier stop rather than saving it for the end.
Merli's rooftop installation at Shaw House has its own illumination schedule. It is not a reason to assume that the villages, shops or trains operate all night.
Ngee Ann City and Shaw House village opening hours
The Great Christmas Village page gives separate hours for the two sites:
| Village | Season | Usual hours | Later evenings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza | November 13-January 3 | 15:00-22:00 | December Fridays and Saturdays to 22:30; Christmas Eve to 01:00 |
| Shaw House Urban Plaza | November 20-January 3 | 15:00-22:00 | December 18, 19, 25 and 26 to 22:30; Christmas Eve to 01:00 |
Both combine carnival activities with festive displays, but they are not interchangeable stops. Ngee Ann City includes the Hitachi Santa House; the programme lists artificial snowfall shows there at 20:00 and 21:00. Choose one if it fits your evening, rather than waiting outdoors for both.
Set a separate budget for games, rides and food. A free street-light walk is not the same purchase as carnival credits, and a credit bundle is not an unlimited ride pass. Before paying, ask how many credits the particular ride uses and whether its height or age rule suits your child. Do not buy a larger bundle just because another activity appears nearby.
Individual pop-ups can finish before the wider Christmas season. Check their own dates if a particular workshop is the reason for your visit.
A shorter evening walk from Orchard towards Somerset
For a first visit after November 20, use this as a flexible plan rather than a timed tour:
- Start around Orchard MRT. Have dinner or a snack before joining the evening foot traffic. Look at the ION Orchard area and Shaw House; add the Shaw village only if your group wants carnival time.
- Continue towards Ngee Ann City. Pick one activity or photo stop. Families who want a Santa House show can build their break around the published evening times.
- Make the Hilton projection your final planned display. Keep its 22:00 finish in mind on an ordinary night, then head towards Somerset for your onward journey.
Allow roughly two hours as a planning budget, with more time for dinner, queues or rides. This is not a measured crowd-time estimate. You can shorten it to one village and the projection, or skip the carnival entirely.
Do not try to add a late Gardens by the Bay visit just because both appear under Singapore Christmas searches. It is a separate destination with its own programme and admission arrangements. For a wider trip, the Singapore with kids guide helps spread attractions across different days.
MRT arrival and the journey home
Use LTA's journey-planning tools for your accommodation-to-station route and the current station exits. MyTransport.SG provides public-transport information and service alerts. Save both an arrival station and a return option before leaving your hotel.
Orchard is a useful starting point for the Shaw House and ION end; Somerset suits a shorter visit focused on the Hilton side. With a stroller or a wheelchair, check the lift route rather than assuming the nearest street exit has step-free access. A station lift does not guarantee that every outdoor event approach is clear or uncrowded.
If paying with a contactless bank card, SimplyGo's guidance says to use the same card and payment mode when entering and leaving. A physical card and that card in a phone wallet are not interchangeable for the same journey.
Check the last train for your actual destination. Lights remaining on until 02:00 or 06:00 do not establish late MRT service. If you plan to leave after the last train, arrange an alternative and allow for walking to an accessible pickup point.
Christmas Eve is a different kind of visit
On December 24, the organizer lists a road closure from 18:00 until 02:00 on December 25, between Paterson Junction by ION Orchard and Bideford Junction by Ngee Ann City. The street party starts at 20:00.
Choose an ordinary evening if your priority is a manageable family walk rather than the countdown. On Christmas Eve, do not book a taxi pickup inside the closed stretch. Recheck the organizer's event page and transport notices nearer the date for the final programme, crossings, diversions and departure arrangements.
The closure ending at 02:00 is not a confirmed last-train time, a promise that a taxi can reach your exact location then, or the opening hours of every activity.
Rain, children and a workable backup
Bring a small umbrella and shoes you can walk in when the pavement is wet. Have an indoor meal or break location in mind before starting, but do not assume every mall entrance remains open as late as the street lights.
The Meteorological Service Singapore lists forecasts, radar and warnings, including information available through myENV. Check the short-range forecast before setting off and again before a long outdoor wait. Seasonal expectations are not a forecast for your chosen evening. If thunder or heavy rain disrupts the walk, pause indoors rather than pushing on to finish every stop.
For children, one village can be enough. Decide a games budget before entering, allow a toilet break before a show, and choose a meeting point that everyone can name without needing a message to load. There is no guaranteed quiet viewing section or unrestricted stroller space. Ask staff about current access and ride requirements rather than treating the whole event as suitable for every age.
Christmas dates also do not establish every restaurant's or attraction's holiday hours. Confirm any meal reservation or separate attraction directly instead of assuming everything is open, or everything is closed.
Keep maps and messages available without making data the main event
Save the village locations, hotel address, return route and any booking confirmations before the walk. Mobile data is useful for a changed meeting point, live transport information and weather checks, but screenshots and an agreed meeting place still matter in a crowd.
For a short visit, OpenSim Singapore plans include 1GB for 7 days at USD1.76 and 3GB for 15 days at USD4.92, with top-up available on those plans. Prices are a November 7 snapshot; confirm the selected plan at checkout. Their practical advantage over relying only on a venue connection is having a data allowance for the journey to and from Orchard Road as well. They do not include carnival admission or guarantee service in a dense crowd.
Hotel Wi-Fi and saved information may be enough if you are comfortable without live updates outside. If you want mobile data, use the travel data calculator, check phone compatibility, and read the installation timing guide before buying.
