Referral rewards arrive as store credit on your OpenSim account. Checkout on the website and in the OpenSim app has a "Use store credit" option, so you never need to type a code. Store credit is held in US dollars and does not expire, so it can wait for your next trip.

Check your balance

The Store credit card on your Referrals page, and the same card under Refer friends in the app, shows what you can spend now and what is still on its way. Ready to spend is what checkout can take off your next eSIM. Pending holds rewards that haven't cleared yet, and you can't spend them until they do.

If a refund took back a reward you had already spent, the page also shows the amount as Owed. Any store credit you add later, including gift card credit and new rewards, goes to that amount first. When OpenSim referral rewards arrive, and when they are taken back explains pending rewards and refunds.

Use store credit on the website

Choose your eSIM and go to the payment page. Tick "Use store credit", which also shows how much you have available. The summary then lists the store credit, the amount to pay and the credit left after this order.

If your credit covers the whole order, the button changes to "Pay with store credit" and you don't need a card. Otherwise, select "Continue to payment" and pay the rest as usual. Your credit is held while you finish and only spent when you complete the purchase. If you leave without paying, the hold runs out and the credit goes back to your balance.

Use store credit in the app

At checkout in the app, turn on "Use store credit". The app shows your order total, the store credit and the amount to pay, and the Pay button shows the new amount. Get the latest version of the OpenSim app from the App Store or Google Play.

What store credit covers

Store credit pays for new eSIM purchases on the website and in the app, including the service fee. There are two limits:

  • Codes and store credit can't be combined on one order, and that includes a friend's referral code, so pick whichever gives you the better price.
  • Top-ups to an eSIM you already have don't use store credit.

Store credit in the creator program

Store credit is for spending on OpenSim, with one exception for creators. If you are an approved creator, the part of your credit that came from referral earnings can be cashed out to PayPal from the website. Credit from gift cards or anywhere else can only be spent. The creator section of the referral terms has the rules, and the creator program page explains how to apply.

Questions

Does OpenSim store credit expire?

No. Unused credit has no end date.

Why can't I spend a reward I just earned?

It is probably still under Pending, which happens when your account has a waiting period. Once that period ends, the reward moves to Ready to spend by itself.

Sources and updates

The store credit section of the OpenSim referral terms covers the currency of your balance, the rule that it never expires and spending it at checkout on the website or in the app. Your Referrals page shows what is pending, ready to spend or owed. We will update this guide when store credit rules or the checkout steps change.
