OpenSim launches referral rewards: invite friends and earn store credit
From today, you can invite friends to OpenSim and earn store credit when they buy an eSIM. The friends you invite save on their first eSIM.
We built referral rewards so that a good recommendation pays something back to the person who made it. The friend you send starts their first trip with us at a lower price.
Referral rewards work on the OpenSim website and in the OpenSim app. If you signed up when we were still called Roaming eSIM, your existing account can join.
The same steps in text
- Join. On the home screen, tap Profile. Tap Refer friends. Tick I agree to the referral terms, then tap Join.
- Share your link. Tap Copy link, or use Share to send it in a message. Friends nearby can scan your QR code.
- Your friend saves. On your friend's phone, they open your link and tap Sign in to claim. When they buy in the OpenSim app, their friend discount is already applied. A friend can also type your code at checkout and tap Apply.
- You earn store credit. When your friend buys, your reward shows in Refer friends. Rewards wait under Pending, then move to Ready to spend.
- Spend it. At checkout, turn on Use store credit. Then tap Pay.
What is new for customers
Once you sign in, you will find Refer friends in the account menu on the website and in the Profile tab of the app. Get the latest version of the OpenSim app from the App Store or Google Play. Agree to the referral terms there, and you get your own link, a QR code and a button for a website or blog.
Friends who are new to OpenSim get money off their first eSIM when they open your link and sign in, or type your code at checkout. You earn store credit on the new eSIMs they buy during the earning period set in the referral terms. Your current reward and your friend's discount are on your Referrals page.
The credit never expires and is kept in US dollars. When you next buy an eSIM, tick "Use store credit" at checkout on the website, or turn on "Use store credit" in the app. You do not need to type a code.
For travel creators: the OpenSim creator program
Referral rewards come with a second program for people who talk about travel to a bigger audience, such as YouTubers, TikTokers, bloggers, newsletter writers and the people who run travel communities. You need to be in the referral program first, then you can apply to the creator program. We review every application by hand. Once we approve you, we agree your reward and your audience's discount with you, and your referral earnings can be paid out to PayPal.
